A way to make time for YOU

Updated: May 12

If you have been following me for a while you will know I always speak and promote positive birth. I have come a long way and learnt quite a lot over the past two years and one thing that I genuinely believe works are affirmations. Not only do they help you prepare your mind for an event but they do help with your day to day life.

Negative thoughts come from many years of hearing, watching and witnessing negative situations. Horror stories surrounding birth, dramatic movies, soaps on TV etc. Affirmations can create a new way of thinking, a way to train your mind towards a more positive way of dealing with stress.

Along with affirmations I have recently found that meditations can help if you are feeling overwhelmed. Taking ten minuets out of your day to sit down, listen and rebuild can make a huge difference with how you handle pressures you may come across.

This morning when I woke up I already new I had a feeling of overwhelm, so my husband took the kids, I went and washed my face and for ten minutes I turned on my medication. My word, it really helped!

I was always sceptical about meditation or affirmations, I really was. I find that you have to be in the right mind frame and really want to make a change. Since being in lock-down, finding time alone has been hard. The house is always full (which is great!) but it means that I cannot get work done that maybe I need to and I certainly cannot clean the house top to bottom with little ones running around all day. It can be stressful.

Sometimes taking instruction and being told to do something can help, I know it helps me! It just gives me that kick. I have started using LSW MIND CARDS. They are mindful cards for your mental health and well being. Every day I select a card at random from five categories:

Reflection

Gratitude

Kindness

Ritual

Journal

I am going to pull some cards and give you examples from each option:

The first I have pulled is Reflection which says: ‘To Live is the rarest thing in the world. Most people exist, that is all’. It suggests that you take ten minuets to reflect and apply that to your life.

Randomly from Journal I pull ‘When in your life were you happiest?’ This card suggests taking some time to write your answer in a journal.

The third I pull from Ritual asks me to ‘Find a new recipe and cook a meal from scratch whilst listening to your favourite podcast or audiobook’.

Next, I pick a card from Kindness suggesting me to ‘Send a text message or email to a friend that you have not spoken to for a while, letting them know you are thinking of them’ – How lovely!

And finally, one from Gratitude says ‘Take a photo of something you are grateful for today. It could be a person, a meal, a possession, a pet’.

I personally think these are wonderful and would recommend them to anyone that wants to make a positive change to their day! They have made a huge difference to my way of thinking and I am totally going to get Brad on board!

I know how tough things are at the moment, so treat yourself .
