Father's Day Gift Guide 2020

This year Father’s Day falls on June 21st - It will come around quicker than you think. It may be different this time around for Dad's and Grandad's, so lets make it special. I have put together some ideas for you, all with independent businesses as I truly believe we need to shop small right now!

I hope you can find something that suits the Dad in your life!

Independent Wine

Yes, that’s right, I am suggesting a night in with good food and some really fabulous wine delivered directly to your door - next day! Investing in a good bottle of Italian wine can go such a long way really making it a Father’s Day to remember.

If you do not know much about wine or where to start, Independent Wine is the place to begin. They are passionate about premium Italian wine, with an online catalogue full of hand-picked wines just for you. Why not invest in a beautiful bottle of Francone Barolo, a rich, deep wine with fruity and spicy tones. This wine would pair well with roasted or braised meat and retails at £34.95. (Francone Barolo was the winner of the Decanter Silver medal) Click to view

Another option would be to wrap a bottle in a straw basket and head out for an evening picnic together. My personal favorite would be a romantic bottle of La Castellina ,Chianti Classico. Made from at least 80% Sangiovese grapes this wine is from the Tuscany region in Italy, with prominent aromas of raspberries with cherry and a subtle hint of cinnamon. Pair this with some Italian red meats and cheese platter and you have finished celebrating Father’s Day in style. Chianti Classico retails at £16.99. Click to view. (*)

My Circular Wardrobe

A go to for me is usually a piece of clothing because we all know some men cannot be bothered with buying their own clothes! However, I know we are all trying to be more sustainable and shop consciously. A wonderful shop that caught my eye is My Circular Wardrobe an online clothing platform for buying and selling high-street, premium and luxury pre-loved pieces. They have something for everyone and in addition, they recently launched menswear collection of luxury shirts, t-shirts and accessories, just in time for Father's Day.

What I love is that it was founded by a mother and daughter duo with many years of experience working in the fashion industry. Karen and Danielle created My Circular Wardrobe with a mission to breakdown the stigma associated with buying second hand and to encourage circular fashion. In a time when the fashion industry’s environmental impact is under increasingly intense scrutiny, My Circular Wardrobe is lengthening the lifetime of beautiful pieces. (*)

Wooden Gifts and More

This is a wonderful handmade keepsake idea. Something I personally think my Dad would like. Made from real wood you can choose from wooden pens, fountain pens, letter openers, and more. They can be handcrafted with any name, logo or text. A best seller is the bocoté writing pen, this is made from carefully selected Columbian bocoté wood. Bocoté is a challenging wood to work with but makes for some elegant ballpoint pens in combination with the gold-coloured accents.

Bocote Pen Starting at 17.95 Eur

Wooden Crafts and More was founded by Dennis Marechal in 2015 at age 16! He says’ I focus on creating truly unique wooden gifts where the colours and the figures of the wood are in the centre’. He has a beautiful passion for wood and crafting. Based in Belgium Dennis can ship worldwide.

Don’t Buy Her Flowers

If you are still undecided why not check out these Father’s Day Packages. They can be created and arranged by you, or you can choose from some that are already prepared. For a dad that may be a keen gardener, a beer and crisp lover or a man who loves self care – they have something for everyone. They even have the ‘Knackerd Dad Package’ which I feel is very fitting to Dad life!

Packages start from £8.50 - £52.00

Don’t Buy Her Flowers was set up by Steph in 2014 in her spare bedroom and it has grown ever since. Turns out there is plenty of TLC needed in our lives, and this is what Steph began to realise. The thought behind the business, Steph says ‘When I had my first baby and received lots of flowers, I was feeling completely overwhelmed with everything – the baby, the visitors, the bodily functions – and trying to arrange flowers and then dispose of them was all a bit much, however pathetic that sounds. I found that other parents felt the same and Don’t Buy Her Flowers was born’
